Honks for Jason Tour Back and Bigger in 2022

Raising Funds for St. Joseph Home and Mason Challenger League Adaptive Ball Fields 

(CINCINNATI, September 14, 2022)—The tour of Jason’s world, that brings waves, smiles and honking horns to places around Sharonville, Blue Ash, and beyond—all for a good cause—is looking to improve on the success it had last year when it doubled down on its goals of 10,000 honks for $10,000, and raised more than $23,000 for St. Joseph Home.

Jason is a young man with cerebral palsy who primarily uses a wheelchair for mobility. He is well known throughout his hometown of Blue Ash, and beyond, for spreading joy by waving at passersby who honk in response. Jason’s dad, Pete White, wanted to share Jason’s gifts with the world and that’s how the Honks for Jason campaign was born. 

For 2022, they aim to raise even more to benefit St. Joseph Home, a local provider of residential and support programs for individuals with complex physical and developmental disabilities and the adaptive ball field campaign for Mason Challenger League, a baseball league for children with disabilities. Jason attends one of St. Joseph Home’s Adult Day Programs and participates in Mason Challenger baseball.

The fact that they have inspired this level of support spurs them on to do more. White credits ‘super community partners’ for growing the Honks for Jason campaign from a family’s quest to a community-based cause. Now businesses are reaching out to the Whites and asking if they can be involved in supporting Jason, his friend-making, and fundraising. 

Among the first tour stops this year is September 22, at Midwest Best BBQ. The Loveland eatery is hosting an all-day benefit. Pete White said, “Owners Nicole and Tim Worsham have been super hosts of Honks and Jason over the years, and we are excited to be back. When ordering mention "Honks for Jason" to trigger a 20% donation.” Jason will be waving from 5 to 7 p.m. and several members of the Mason Challenger Little League World Series team will also be present to wave and sign autographs.

In September, the tour will also be stopping at Summit Park on Sept. 17 from 9-11 a.m. and the Delta Hotel at 11320 Chester Rd, Sharonville on Sept. 27 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. The complete Honks for Jason schedule is updated frequently. 

 Jason is the inspiration behind Howdy, Neighbors, which is managing the campaign.  Pete White said, “As Jason waved to people wherever we went, we began to realize that Jason had a special gift–the ability to bring out the best in others, by showing the best side of himself. We see that same spirit in so many of his peers with disabilities, and we are hoping that through Howdy, Neighbors, Jason and his friends can spread that spirit to many others.” 

Anyone in any location can ‘sponsor’ a honk by making a donation online. 

White said, “Jason brings a smile to everyone’s face that he gets to share a wave and a honk with. We want to bring more joy to our community, and no one does that better than Jason. This positive campaign also aims to show that every member of our community has wonderful gifts to share. “

Mason Challenger League The Mason Challenger League is a division of Mason Youth Organization (MYO). MYO is a non-profit, all volunteer organization providing Little League Baseball, Softball, and Challenger programs in the community. The Challenger League is open to boys and girls with intellectual and physical disabilities, ages five and older, in Mason and surrounding communities. Beginning in 2012 with just 30 players, the Mason Challenger League has grown to 100 players participating on 10 teams. 

Howdy, Neighbors is an organization that strives to build community togetherness through identifying and sharing the spirit of joy and compassion that each of us have within us. Howdy, Neighbors was inspired by Jason White, a young adult with cerebral palsy, who shares his enthusiasm for life by greeting people and cars that pass by his location. Jason and his companions with disabilities have been waving on street corners since 2021 and have helped to raise over $100,000 for programs assisting those with disabilities.
