State Representative Bob Peterson (R-Sabina) has announced the release of new guidelines for the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program by the Ohio Department of Development. The program aims to provide financial support for the cleanup of abandoned, idled, or underused industrial, commercial, and institutional sites affected by hazardous substances or petroleum.

As part of House Bill 96, which is included in Ohio’s State Operating Budget, $200 million has been allocated for this initiative. Each of Ohio’s 88 counties will have $1 million reserved for applicants, distributed through a merit-based process. Applications will be accepted from November 12 at 10 a.m. until December 5 at 5 p.m.

Peterson emphasized the significance of the program, stating, “The Brownfield Remediation Program is an important investment in Ohio’s future. By cleaning up and repurposing these sites, we open the door for new economic opportunities and job growth across the state.”

The Ohio Department of Development will host a webinar on October 28 at 10 a.m. to explain the guidelines and answer questions from potential applicants. Further information on eligibility, project requirements, and the application process can be found on the Ohio Department of Development’s website.
