State Rep. Bob Peterson | The Ohio House of Representatives
State Rep. Bob Peterson (R-Washington Court House) has announced that nearly $20 million will be awarded to Highland, Pike, and Ross counties for the improvement of children's health services. The funding is part of the new Appalachian Children's Health Initiative and will support the creation or expansion of community- and school-based health clinics, as well as the launch of healthcare-focused workforce development programs.
Representative Peterson expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “Today marks a huge step forward in our continued efforts to improve student’s academic outcomes and bring more accessibility to healthcare resources to those living in Ohio’s Appalachian region. I am proud of the changes we’re making that will improve our area for generations to come.”
The $64 million allocated across 20 Appalachian counties will fund 28 projects aimed at impacting 61,000 students and 375,000 residents. These projects will provide expanded services including comprehensive primary care, dental, vision, and mental health services for children, families, and communities.
The funding for the Appalachian Children's Health Initiative is made possible by the Appalachian Community Grant Program, which is investing $500 million into Ohio's 32-county Appalachian region.
