The House Transportation Committee has approved House Bill 631, which aims to name a section of State Route 273 in front of Ridgemont High School as the Major David McGue Memorial Highway. This legislation is sponsored by State Representative Jon Cross from Kenton.

Major David McGue, who was born and raised in Kenton, Ohio, graduated from Ridgemont High School in 1989. He later attended The Ohio State University and Findlay University, graduating in 1998 and 2002 respectively. Major McGue served for 32 years in the U.S. Air Force and the Army National Guard. Following his military service, he worked as a physician's assistant for the Veterans Administration in Marion, Ohio. He passed away on August 22, 2021.

During sponsor testimony, Rep. Cross remarked: “Major McGue truly emulated servant leadership in everything that he did.” He added that he hopes this highway designation will ensure that "Major David McGue is never forgotten" and serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by service members.

The bill will now proceed to the House floor for further consideration.
