The Ohio House of Representatives passed Substitute House Bill 2 today, the state’s two-year construction budget for capital projects. State Rep. Bob Peterson (R-Sabina) announced that the Capital Budget will make significant investments in local community projects.

Peterson secured $1.1 million in capital investment for Highland County, which includes $1 million to modernize computer labs and create space for training and project-based learning at Southern State Community College. This investment aims to prepare students for careers in information technology and cybersecurity. Additionally, $170,000 has been allocated to renovate the Rocky Fork Lake State Park East End Overlook Retreat Banquet Center, including deck replacement and restroom facility updates.

“These capital funding projects will make much-needed improvements to the banquet center and will better prepare our students for the workforce,” said Peterson. “It is important that we bring state dollars back to our area to strengthen our communities.”

Statewide, the legislation includes substantial investments such as $600 million for the School Building Program Assistance Fund, $400 million for the Public Works Commission Local Public Infrastructure and State Capital Improvement Program, and $397.6 million for higher education projects across Ohio.

Substitute House Bill 2 now awaits the Governor's signature.
