State Representative Bob Peterson (R-Sabina) has announced the official start of Ohio's fall hunting season, which begins in September. Peterson emphasized the significance of this period for many residents.
“As Ohio’s fall hunting season begins, we celebrate a time-honored tradition that brings families together and supports wildlife conservation,” said Rep. Peterson. “I wish all hunters a safe, successful and responsible season.”
The opening dates for the 2025 hunting season are as follows: Squirrel (fox, red, and gray), dove, rail (Virginia and sora), snipe, and gallinule hunting begin on Monday, September 1. Early Canada goose and early teal seasons open on Saturday, September 6 and run through Sunday, September 14. Deer archery season starts on Saturday, September 27.
A new law will also affect hunters this year. House Bill 64 lowers the qualifying age for senior discounts on hunting, fishing, and other sportsmen licenses from 66 to 65 years old. The legislation takes effect on September 30.
Hunters can sign up for licenses and find more information about the full schedule online.
