The Ohio Senate has passed Senate Bill 20, designating the first week of May as Stroke Awareness Week. The bill, sponsored by State Senators Nathan Manning and Nickie J. Antonio, was approved unanimously with a vote of 32-0.

Senator Manning emphasized the importance of timely response when dealing with strokes: "When someone is experiencing a stroke, every single second counts," he stated. He further noted that public awareness is essential for educating people about stroke symptoms, which could lead to earlier detection and improved health outcomes.

Strokes are currently the fifth leading cause of death in Ohio and contribute significantly to disability within the state. Senate Bill 20 aims to support national efforts by increasing awareness of stroke symptoms and causes, potentially reducing the incidence of strokes across Ohio.

Senator Antonio co-sponsored the bill alongside Senator Manning, representing bipartisan support for this health initiative.
