State Senator Nathan Manning has announced that over $1.3 million will be allocated to Huron and Lorain counties for brownfield remediation efforts. The funding aims to transform two sites into valuable community resources.
Manning stated, "This investment will help us turn two sites into excellent resources and developments that will support our communities." He expressed optimism about the positive impact these projects will have on the 13th District.
The specific projects include an allocation of $880,000 for asbestos abatement and demolition at 615 Foster Avenue in Lorain County. This site is slated to become 100 affordable senior housing units. In Huron County, $464,870 will be used for similar work at 130 Shady Lane in Norwalk, preparing the site for redevelopment to aid county operations.
The funding comes from the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, which is part of House Bill 33—the state's main operating budget supported by Manning. Since its inception in 2021, the program has distributed more than $636 million across 626 projects in 86 counties to clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites.
