State Representatives Roy Klopfenstein and Bob Peterson have announced that the Ohio House of Representatives has unanimously passed House Bill 65, known as the Agriculture Appreciation Act.
House Bill 65, sponsored by Klopfenstein and Peterson, will codify several prominent agriculture-related days into state law. These include FFA Week, the last full week of February, and 4-H Week ending the second Saturday in March. Other designated periods are National Farmers Market Week, the first full week of August, Ohio Soil Health Week during the second full week of November, and Stormwater Awareness Week, the first full week of October. In addition, March 21st is recognized as Agriculture Day, and October 12th is Farmer’s Day.
"Agriculture is Ohio’s largest industry," stated Klopfenstein. "It is important for us to not only recognize, but celebrate those of us who enjoy the safest, most affordable, and most abundant food supply in the world."
Peterson commented on the bill by saying: "I am excited to honor and recognize Ohio’s Agriculture Industry on these special days and hope Ohioans will appreciate the food fiber and fuel produced by farmers every day."
Agriculture plays a significant role in Ohio’s economy, contributing over $100 billion and employing one out of every seven Ohioans. The state is also home to more than 75,000 farms, with 90% of them family owned.
