State Representative Bob Peterson has announced the Ohio House of Representatives' passage of Senate Bill 100. This legislation is designed to provide members of the Ohio Farm Bureau with access to more affordable and personalized health insurance coverage. Representative Peterson played a key role in advancing this provision through House Bill 99.

The bill seeks to address a significant challenge for those working in agriculture: securing affordable healthcare for their families. The Farm Bureau Health Plan, established by the bill, offers an individually evaluated plan that is self-governed and self-funded for Ohio Farm Bureau members. It is exempt from regulation and not subject to Affordable Care Act guidelines. Senate Bill 100 provides an alternative option for more affordable healthcare coverage within the agricultural community.

"Any farmer or small business owner knows that finding economical health insurance is one of their greatest challenges," said Rep. Peterson. "The inability to have reasonable health insurance can discourage individuals from starting a business or becoming a full-time farmer. This bill creates an affordable option for individuals to receive health insurance."

Agriculture remains Ohio's leading industry, contributing over $100 billion economically and employing one out of every seven residents in the state. Ohio hosts more than 75,000 farms, with 90% being family-owned.

Senate Bill 100 will now proceed to the Governor for his signature.
