State Representative Bob Peterson has expressed his support for House Bill 3, known as the "School Bus Safety Act." The bill introduces several measures aimed at enhancing the safety of school buses. It proposes increased penalties for those who illegally pass stopped school buses and authorizes the installation of cameras on buses to record such violations.
Peterson stated, “The safety of Ohio’s children as they get on and off the school bus is incredibly important. I am happy to have voted for this piece of legislation that creates further safety protections for our children.”
House Bill 3 also establishes a School Bus Safety Fund and Grant Program. This initiative will allow schools to apply for funding to improve safety features specific to their needs. Additionally, it includes public education initiatives on school bus safety and designates August as “School Bus Safety Month.”
The bill aims to strengthen enforcement against violations, promote safer transportation options, and educate drivers about their legal obligations. The goal is to reduce accidents and enhance student safety.
Following its approval in the House, House Bill 3 will now proceed to the Senate for further consideration.
