State Representatives Adam Mathews (R-Lebanon) and Brian Lampton (R-Beavercreek) have joined forces with State Senators George Lang (R-West Chester) and Stephen A. Huffman (R-Tipp City) to introduce legislation aimed at eliminating the state income tax and the commercial activities tax (CAT). The goal of this legislation is to make Ohio the most business-friendly state in the Union and to enhance the overall economic well-being of its residents.

According to Representative Mathews, "Ohio is ready to reclaim our role as the economic engine of the Midwest. This step ensures Ohio is a destination for businesses to grow and attract people who want to work and live here, raise a family, and truly thrive."

Representative Lampton also believes that eliminating the state income tax will have a positive impact on the lives of Ohioans. He stated, "Our goal is to make Ohio the best place to work, live, and raise a family."

Senator Lang emphasized the importance of strengthening Ohio's economy, stating, "It is imperative that we take every possible step to strengthen Ohio's great economy, and this legislation will do just that. I am proud to work with my colleagues in the House and Senate to bring home tax cuts to Ohio's residents and businesses."

Senator Huffman expressed his enthusiasm for the legislation, saying, "This legislation builds upon my bill from the 134th General Assembly, Senate Bill 327. I look forward to working with my joint sponsor Senator Lang and Representatives Mathews and Lampton to cut taxes for everyday Ohioans."

The companion pieces of legislation will be introduced in both the Ohio House and Senate. The plan is to eliminate the state income tax and the CAT by 2030 through a phased-in approach. This approach will gradually reduce the top rate of 3.99% to 0% by 2030.

The ultimate goal of this legislation is to create a more competitive business environment, promote job creation, and position Ohio as the tenth state to eliminate its state income tax.

The bill numbers and committee assignments for these pieces of legislation are yet to be determined.
