State Representative Bob Peterson has announced that the Highland County Land Reutilization Corporation will receive a grant of $129,628. This funding, provided through the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, is intended for the assessment of the East Monroe Tank Farm.
The project aims to evaluate a former tank farm site that includes both above-ground and underground storage tanks. The assessment process will involve several stages: a Phase I property assessment, a geophysical survey, an asbestos-containing materials survey, and a Phase II property assessment. These steps are designed to identify any environmental issues that could impact future development at the site.
Peterson commented on the significance of this initiative by stating, “By evaluating the East Monroe Tank Farm, the area will be better prepared to welcome new businesses and opportunities to the site.” He added that it represents "a great opportunity to keep moving Highland County forward."
The Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program has been active in supporting such initiatives across the state. Since its inception, more than $490 million has been awarded by the Department of Development to back 462 projects spanning 84 counties.
